Why does my browser try to load a page but never finish?


If you click a button or link and nothing happens for an unusually long time, your browser is "hanging" or "freezing" (they're the same). This means that it is either waiting for information from a server or busy processing internally.

At certain times of the day, traffic on the Internet can be very heavy, and you may have to wait a little bit longer for a response from our servers. It is not that the load on our servers is too great, but rather that the lines connecting our server with your computer are too busy. The Internet can sometimes experience bottlenecks and traffic jams, just as freeways do.

Delays caused by heavy traffic shouldn't last more than a few minutes. If one does, the best solution is usually to resubmit your request by clicking the same button or link again.

If your browser hangs or freezes frequently, it may help to clear your browser's cache. To do this, follow the steps below for your browser and version.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 and higher
    1. Open the "Tools" menu and choose "Internet Options."
    2. Click on the "Delete Files" button and click "OK" when prompted.
    3. Click on the "Settings..." button.
    4. In the section "Check for newer versions of stored pages," select "Every visit to the page" and then click "OK."
    5. Locate the "History" heading right below it, click on the "Clear History" button, and then choose "Yes" when prompted.
    6. Click "OK" to close the window, and then close and restart your browser.
Netscape 4.x for Windows or Mac
    1. Open the "Edit" menu and choose "Preferences..."
    2. Click the plus to the left of "Advanced" on the left side, and then choose "Cache" from the drop-down list.
    3. Click the "Clear Memory Cache" button and choose "OK" when prompted.
    4. Click the "Clear Disk Cache" button and choose "OK" when prompted.
    5. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the Preferences window, and then close and restart your browser.
Internet Explorer 4.x for Windows
    1. Open the "View" menu and choose "Internet Options..."
    2. Locate the "Temporary Internet files" heading, click the "Delete Files" button, and click "OK" when prompted.
    3. Locate the "History" heading, click the "Clear History" button, and click "OK" when prompted.
    4. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the Internet Options window, and then close and restart your browser.
Internet Explorer 4.x or 3.x for Mac
    1. Open the "Edit" menu and choose "Preferences."
    2. Choose "Advanced" from the "Web browser" heading on the left side.
    3. In the "Cache" section, click the "Empty Now" button.
    4. Click "OK" to close the Preferences window.
    5. Next, open the "Go" menu from IE's menu bar and choose "Open History."
    6. Hold down the "Shift" key and select each of the pages that pertain to Seatizen from the current day's history.
    7. Release the "Shift" key, and drag the selected items into the trash.
    8. Close the History window, empty the trash, and then close and restart your browser.
